Arts & Music

     Our Philosophy Regarding Art

We encourage students to develop their God-given talents to their fullest potential and seek to integrate Biblical values with creative passions.  Art is God's idea; creation is God's own artwork!   His Word speaks of His creativity and His attention to beauty and design.  God gave us the ability to produce art and also appreciate beauty.
Students are engaged in weekly art classes; every child has a piece displayed in the school's annual art exhibit and a variety of student artwork is displayed in local and state art festivals.  Artwork is also loaded to Artsonia, a site where parents may capture student artwork on various products.  Proceeds from Artsonia support the HCS art program.

The Music Program @ HCS

Music plays an integral part in Heritage Christian School's philosophy of general education. It is this part that truly focuses on maturing the spirit of a person, for it is through creative expression that he communicates his innermost feelings to God and man. The Christian student learns that creative expression should be made, or acted out, to the glory of God and for the purpose of worshipping Him.

Students beginning in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade participate in general music/choir twice a week.  Middle school students participate in general music 3 times per week.  They learn proper vocal techniques as well as learn a wide variety of music. The elementary classes will perform a Christmas musical and a Spring Program.

Students in 5th grade through 8th grade may also audition for selection to our special vocal group known as Heritage Youth Choir.

Music Theory may be taught as part of the choir class to students. Basic musicianship is taught with a God-centered curriculum.
Strings is also offered to students in 3rd grade through 8th grade.

Band is offered to students in 5th grade through 12th grade as an afterschool extra-curricular activity by Mrs. Vaillancourt.  Students are required to practice daily. This class is offered twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Various ensembles may be offered as time and interest dictate. Participation in scheduled school concerts is required.

Throughout the year, students perform at various churches in the area in an effort to minister locally and gain support for our school. This is not required, but is a valuable experience for our students.
