SPIRITUALLY
CHARACTER QUALITIES
Faith
The basis of a Christian education is saving Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, HCS provides many opportunities for students to trust Christ as Savior and helps that Faith to grow. The Bible states, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
Godliness
The Scriptures teach that man was created in the image of God. When Adam sinned that image was tarnished, but as redeemed sinners we are to shine as lights to a lost world. The only thing many people know of God is what they see and hear from us. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “that man looks on the outward appearance, but that God looks on the heart.” Godliness begins with a right heart attitude toward God as one abides in Christ and yields to the inner work of the Holy Spirit producing His peaceable fruits of righteousness. (Galatians 5:22-23)
Knowledge
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Proverbs 1:7) We strive to teach every subject from a Godly perspective so that the student will see the truth of God revealed in that subject. Knowledge needs to be related to God and His Word to produce a profitable servant “thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Tim.
“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jer. 29:11)
Patience (Endurance)
One of the most important character traits that children and young people must learn as they mature is responsibility. Responsibility is taking a task and seeing it through to completion, and that involves endurance. The Bible equates endurance to the running of a race: “Let us run, with patience the race that is set before us.” Part of the student’s development is to learn endurance in all areas, especially the spiritual area.
Service
Temperance (Self Control)
Virtue (Excellence)
Virtue carries more than the usual meaning of purity although moral uprightness is certainly a part of it. In a broad sense it is used to encompass something that is excellent or worthy of praise. It is our desire to help students develop their God-given abilities and spiritual lives to the full measure that God has for them. With this in mind, HCS attempts to offer a wide variety of opportunities to explore individual potential through both curricular and extracurricular activities.
